Blocking diggers and machos

What does climate justice have to do with feminism?

We, Ende Gelände, do not just fight for the instant phase-out of coal – we fight for worldwide climate justice – and that has something to do with gender roles and power structures. In capitalism it is white men that rule the world and cause climate change. Poor women in the Global South are especially subjects to injustices, that are being aggravated by the climate crisis. In the public debate about solutions to the climate crisis voices of women are underrepresented, and people who do not identify themselves with the binary understanding of gender (e.g. trans or intersex people) are in an even worse position.

Climate justice means, that all people can live a good life and have an equal chance to participate in society. This is why dismantling capitalism is not enough. We need to dismantle patriarchal laws, norms and roles.

We must fight for equality within our own movements: Activists should not find themselves forced into gendered positions or experience gendered violence at actions like Ende Gelände.

This is why Ende Gelände Berlin invites you to join the ”Bechern statt Baggern” (“Boozing not digging”) solidarity evening on July 18th, to discuss:

  • How can we bring together queer feminism and climate justice?
  • What does this mean for the climate justice movement?

There’s going to be a talk from an export from Gender CC ( www.gendercc.net ), an overview about the queerfeminist finger at Ende Gelände 2017 and afterwards we’ll have time to share, discuss and get to know each other.

20:00 arriving and getting to know each other

20:30-21:30 input

Ab 21:30 open discussion and boozing

While sipping rasperry solidarity cocktails we’ll be put do date with news about the climate camp Leipziger Land – which will take place from the 28th of July until the 5th of August at the lignite pit in Pödelwitz – and activists who joined the climate camp and action by Limity jsme me in Czech Republic can share their experiences and reflect upon the action.

Come on over and say cheers with us for resisting together and for future actions!
